Foundation Checklist
Pre-checks
- ☐ Footings complete and ready
- ☐ Window wells and egress windows selected
- ☐ Sump pump discharge location confirmed
- ☐ Downspout locations and any underground drains planned
- ☐ Exterior outlets and penetrations planned
- ☐ Brick ledge requirement confirmed
Layout
- ☐ Establish top-of-wall elevation (confirm what you’re matching)
- ☐ Establish outside perimeter (chalk or string lines)
- ☐ Square the layout and verify dimensions
- ☐ Mark openings and penetrations on footings (windows, egress, sump discharge, vents, etc)
Wall install
- ☐ Build or pour the foundation wall system
- ☐ Install reinforcement as designed
- ☐ Grout cores as designed (CMU)
- ☐ Set J-bolts / hold-downs to match framing plan
Waterproofing and insulation
- ☐ Waterproof foundation exterior (parge/tar or membrane such as Mel-Roll)
- ☐ Schedule and pass backfill inspection before backfilling
- ☐ Install foundation insulation per plan (exterior EPS below grade if used)
- ☐ Confirm ignition barrier requirements for any interior foam
