Demolition Checklist

Use this checklist to protect finishes, control dust, and leave the site safe at the end of each day. This is not a complete list, it is meant to provide a guide so that work can proceed in order, check the full articles for more detail.

Site protection

☐ Cover floors
☐ Remove wall hangings
☐ Protect railings, door sills, counters, and other finishes
☐ Cover vents and turn off the furnace
☐ Put up dust walls
☐ Install air scrubber

Demolition

☐ Remove items to be saved
☐ Disconnect appliances
☐ Remove faucets
☐ Remove items that are garbage
☐ Remove nails and screws from framing
☐ Remove tack strips
☐ Square off drywall patches
☐ Remove floor staples
☐ Remove wax rings
☐ Cap bare wires and plumbing
☐ Cover or barricade holes in the floor
☐ Vacuum
☐ Haul away

Before you leave

☐ Turn furnace back on
☐ Check pilot lights
☐ Turn electrical circuits back on if needed
☐ Don’t forget to lock up
